Highlander Festival

In the 1840s Kelso Washington was founded along the banks of the Cowlitz River by surveyor Peter Crawford, who named the town after his Scottish home. Now, 150 years later, the city continues to honor its roots with a Highlander Festival, a weekend of Scottish and Celtic culture: competition games, music, evening dinner events, clan displays, vendors, piping and a parade as well as a golf tournament, fund raiser events and Sunday worship service. The festival is scheduled the second weekend of September. Evnets are held at the Tam O'Shanter Park, downtown Kelso and other special event sites.
